Dr. Ruth W. Kimokoti
Dr. Ruth Kimokoti is a researcher and a global health expert. Previously, she was on the faculty of the Nutrition Department at Simmons University in Boston. She joined Simmons University from Boston University where she taught in the Medical Nutrition Sciences Program of the Graduate Medical Sciences Division at the School of Medicine. Prior to that she was a physician in Kenya.
Dr. Kimokoti’s research interests include lifestyle-related non-communicable diseases, nutrition, global health, and preventive medicine. She has long experience conducting public health research on associations of diet and lifestyle factors with obesity-related outcomes and cardiovascular disease in the Framingham Heart Study.
She is also part of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study consortium of global health scientists that is compiling scientific reports on global non-communicable and communicable diseases. She was a member of the Science Advisory Panel for the American Heart Association’s “Healthy for Good” Initiative that recently developed the Healthy for GoodTM eModule, a continuing medical education course for health professionals. The course aims to improve nutrition knowledge and counseling skills of healthcare providers.
Dr. Kimokoti got her doctoral degree from the University of Nairobi in Kenya. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from Boston University School of Public Health as well as a Master’s degree in Medical Nutrition Sciences from Boston University School of Medicine.
